There is nothing really novel about wear-away uppers, especially for Nike. But it doesn’t lessen the excitement around its most recent debut on the Air Jordan 1 Mid.

It’s a slight change to one of Nike’s most famous designs

Since the official photos show the shoes with a lot of wear, it’s likely that the upper will look the same right out of the box. On top of a white base that hasn’t been treated to wear away, the overlays at show a dark black that has faded to an infrared 23. Elsewhere, the two Jumpman logos match this color, while the tongue, laces, and Wings are the same color as the neutral version. Depending on how hard you rub the paint off, the end result could have a “Chicago” color scheme.

The Air Jordan 1 Mid “Wear Away” is a great shoe and a fantastic addition to the Air Jordan line. Even though the design isn’t exactly a “OG” retro, the upper that wears away is definitely unique and makes for an interesting lifestyle model.
