Sacai is one of Nike’s oldest partners, but their LDWaffle didn’t become well-known until 2019. Since then, designer Chitose Abe has made new versions of classic pieces with different shapes. The new Cortez 4.0, which is coming out soon, is more grounded than Abe’s other designs.
This sneaker coolly mixes old and new styles
Sacai’s Cortez 4.0 comes in “White,” “Varsity Red,” and “Varsity Royal” to pay homage to the original colorway of the base silhouette. Even the outside of the shoe is made the same way as the OG, with leather on the upper and suede on the toe cap and eye stays. The heel, sole unit, and top line, on the other hand, have the Japanese brand’s signature look: the counter is made up of multiple layers, the bottom is brutalist like previous collaborations, and a second, blue-dominated collar adds more cushioning to the ankle.
This new colorway of the Gassimu x Nike Cortez not only shows a unique design point of view, but also makes a comfortable and modern sneaker to wear. With its linen construction, this is the best example of a sneaker for everyday wear.
